Clarity Innovations is a national security partner that delivers mission-first software and data engineering solutions to the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. The “Clarity U” internship program aims to foster professional growth, drive operational impact, and prepare interns for potential full-time employment upon graduation.
Clarity Innovations is a trusted national security partner, dedicated to safeguarding our nation’s interests and delivering innovative solutions that empower the Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) to transform data into actionable intelligence, ensuring mission success in an evolving world.
Our mission-first software and data engineering platform modernizes data operations, utilizing advanced workflows, CI/CD, and secure DevSecOps practices. We focus on challenges in Information Warfare, Cyber Operations, Operational Security, and Data Structuring, enabling end-to-end solutions that drive operational impact.
Professional growth during your internship can be new exposure to
the Cyber Operations domain, taking on a
new programming language, or perfecting
a new tradecraft technique.
There is a seat at the table for every one of our interns from day one. It is our goal that by the time you leave your fingerprint is on a true operational
contribution.
Your time in our program may be limited but the memories will last. It is our goal that you enjoy your time here and want to come back.
The road doesn’t end at just the internship! Our ultimate end state is to bring on former interns full time after completing their school work.
Over the spring, my internship gave me a fantastic opportunity for learning and expanding my skills across tools like Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines. During this time, I worked with my team to collaboratively implement a solution that boosted our infrastructure security and automation by deploying Falco and SonarQube into our cluster, while also introducing automated certificate management using Trust-Manager. Additionally, I contributed to our development workflow by upgrading our pre- and post-merge pipelines with automated container linting and vulnerability scanning. It was incredibly rewarding to see this work boost our deployment speed and security, and I’m so grateful for such an impactful and accomplished spring!
After the release of a communication service between two of our networks, I was tasked with developing the Infrastructure as Code to make future deployments faster and repeatable. I created a reusable Terraform template for this, and presented a new architectural design to be approved by cloud architects. With the help of my team I was able to transform a manual setup into a standardized process which reduced the time to release other services between multiple environments
Throughout this internship, my work directly enhanced both the developer experience (DX) and user experience (UX) of a cloud-based platform. I delivered high-priority, demo-ready features including but not limited to critical frontend bug fixes and dynamic form integrations to large-scale UI modernizations. All while maintaining strict code quality through updated unit and E2E test suites. Integrate AI coding assistants into my daily workflow to accelerate feature delivery.
As a software engineer intern, I’ve been adding features to a distributed system of cyber capabilities critical for ongoing national security efforts. Recently this has involved a lot of Kubernetes, Bash scripting, and API development in Golang . It’s been a great opportunity to learn more about microservice architecture and platform engineering.
The internship program is one of the coolest parts of the way that we hire at Clarity. Not only does it give students the opportunity to learn more about technical skillsets, it exposes them to the national security environment in a very hands-on way. Whether I’m working with our summer students in the office or connecting with them on campus, Clarity U gives us the chance to reach the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. They get to work in tandem with industry experts and we get to ensure that the importance of the mission doesn’t get overlooked by those who will carry it into the future.
